Electric Vehicle Equity Report Released

A study and report detailing an Equity-forward Passenger Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan for the City of Cincinnati was released on August 22, 2022. The report was developed through the Environmental Defense Fund by fellow Prateek Suri.
The report explores opportunities to deploy EV charging infrastructure in the City of Cincinnati with equity and climate justice as cornerstone principles.
Main themes of the report include identifying mobility needs of low-income communities in the City, issues with EV transition in low-income communities, considerations for deploying public charging network for EVs, identifying disadvantaged communities in the city of Cincinnati for prioritizing investments, and suitable locations in the city to deploy chargers equitably.
The report recommends for the City of Cincinnati to:
- Leverage its properties to provide access to EV charging in disadvantaged communities
- Explore ways to make EV charging affordable for disadvantaged communities
- Work with Duke Energy to explore potential of installing EV chargers on curbsides
- Deployment of chargers at workplaces and locations where members of disadvantaged communities go to work
- Adopt policies and legislation for EV uptake and charging infrastructure
