Connected Communities
Increasing housing density along transit corridors can expand public transportation use and reduce reliance on single-passenger vehicles. Single-family housing dominates many neighborhoods throughout the City. By modifying existing land-use regulations to allow for multi-family developments, the City can create vibrant residential and business areas. This approach makes it easier to design public transportation routes that encourage ridership by connecting people with the places where they need to go. 15 Minute Neighborhoods
A 15-minute city empowers inhabitants to conveniently reach essential daily amenities within a 15 to 20-minute walk, bicycle ride, or other mode of transport from any location within the city. By fostering such compact, accessible neighborhoods, 15-minute communities aim to create vibrant, sustainable, and socially connected urban spaces, ultimately promoting a healthier and more environmentally responsible way of living. Vision Zero
Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate all traffic-related deaths and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. For too long, traffic deaths and severe injuries have been considered an inevitable side effect of modern life. We must no longer regard traffic crashes as “accidents”, but rather as preventable incidents that can be addressed by taking a proactive approach. Through street design, education, and traffic enforcement, we can eliminate traffic-related deaths and severe injuries. The City is also using the idea of Connected Communities to create accessible, people-focused, diverse, and healthy communities. Learn more about Vision Zero
