Food Waste Rescue
Food waste rescue is a vital step in diminishing the amount of food waste that goes to our landfills. The practice of food rescue involves collecting excess food from various sources, such as restaurants, grocery stores, and events, and redirecting it to organizations that help feed individuals and families that are food insecure. The importance of food rescue lies in its dual impact on reducing food waste and addressing hunger. Check out how organizations in Cincinnati are working to rescue food:
Last Mile Food Rescue
Last Mile Food Rescue is a food rescue organization on a mission to save good food and get it to those who need it most. By connecting volunteers fueled by technology, Last Mile Food Rescue connects Food Donors with nonprofits who serve the region's food insecure, fighting food waste and helping to end the hunger that's closets to home.
La Soupe
La Soupe bridges the gap between food waste and hunger. Volunteers rescue perishable foods from farms, grocers, and wholesalers and the La Soupe team transform it into soupes and meals. Volunteers then distribute food items to roughly 170 share partners that feed the food insecure. You can also visit the La Soupe store front to purchase their delicious soupes created from rescued foods. Learn more about La Soupe
