Thrive Together Youth Engagement
In 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency awarded Climate Pollution Reduction Grant funding to the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Statistical Area to combat air pollution through regional climate action planning efforts. A group of local governments, businesses, education institutions, and regional planning organizations convened under the title Thrive Together to complete a greenhouse gas inventory and identify implementation measures for the region.
In 2025, Thrive Together began drafting a Comprehensive Climate Action (CCAP) plan that establishes long-term emissions reduction strategies, building on the findings of the greenhouse gas inventory. The CCAP is meant to reflect residents’ perspectives on the environmental issues facing the region and potential solutions to these issues. To better understand residents’ perspectives, Thrive Together conducted community engagement focusing on key demographic groups, like young people under the age of 25. Youth engagement under Thrive Together was critical to understand the environmental issues young people face, their proposed solutions to these issues, and barriers to implementing these solutions.
