Backflow Prevention Program

Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) works hard to ensure our community’s drinking water is safe to drink for all customers and is free from harmful contaminants. One long-standing program that helps protect the public drinking water supply from pollutants is our Backflow Prevention Program. This program is designed to prevent contaminants from being drawn through a property's water service line into the water mains in the street that serve you and your neighbors.

Devices used for backflow prevention are installed on water service lines if there is a risk of contamination present at the property and are designed to prevent the reversal of water flow once it passes through the device. These devices must be tested annually by a certified plumber or backflow tester per State regulations. Common installations for backflow prevention devices include commercial and industrial properties along with those served by irrigation systems.

GCWW has partnered with BSI Online to assist with State required backflow device testing. BSI Online or Backflow Solutions, Inc. is North America's leading cross-connection control/backflow data management and program administration firm. BSI Online has partnered with over 550 water purveyors to develop and manage effective cross-connection control programs to help protect all our water resources. BSI helps water purveyors by sending notifications, assists with customer service inquiries, and manages required data on behalf of the Greater Cincinnati Water Works.

Certified testers may submit testing results to BSI Online (bsionline.com). There is no fee to register with BSI Online, but you must submit copies of your credentials and test gauge calibration. BSI Online will serve as the primary point of contact for the program and can be contacted below:
