District 3
District 3, under the command of Capt. David Johnston, serves the Western side of the City of Cincinnati. District 3 has 18 separate neighborhoods: Camp Washington, College Hill, East Price Hill, East Westwood, English Woods, Fay Apartments, Lower Price Hill, Millvale, Mount Airy, North Fairmount, Northside, Riverside, Sayler Park, Sedamsville, South Cumminsville, South Fairmount, West Price Hill, and Westwood.
District 3 delivers a variety police services with a staff of 161 sworn officers (1 captain, 4 lieutenants, 20 sergeants and 136 officers) and 4 civilians. The majority of the officers are assigned to the three reliefs: First Shift, which includes the Neighborhood Unit, works closely with the community to provide long-term problem solving and crime-prevention services relative to each neighborhood, Second Shift and Third Shift.
The relief officers' primary function is to provide 24-hour first responder police services to the communities. Other services provided by the reliefs are specialized traffic enforcement and mountain bike patrol.
Additionally, District 3 staffs an Investigative Unit responsible for the district-wide investigations. The Investigative Unit is comprised of two unique units: Investigators, and Violent Crimes Squad. Investigators complete follow up investigations received by the relief officers and processes crime scenes. The Violent Crimes Squad is tasked with the duties of street-level drug investigations, apprehension of wanted felons and other covert operations. The Violent Crimes Squad also assist with initial response and follow-up investigation of incidents of violent crime.
There are also three very strong and committed volunteer Citizens on Patrol groups from Price Hill, Westwood and Sayler Park that patrol their neighborhoods and assist the Police Department in spotting problems and providing service to the communities. These groups are an excellent example of the Community and the Police Department working together to improve the quality of life and to provide a safer environment within the Cincinnati Neighborhoods.
All of District 3's Units gel to form a highly effective and trained support system for delivering the best possible police services to the 14 communities.
