Celebrate Earth Day by Planting Trees!
- Apr 21, 2023
Happy Earth Day (and almost Arbor Day)! One way Cincinnati Parks encourages you to celebrate mother nature is by planting a tree! Whether at a Cincinnati Parks hosted tree planting event or in your backyard, you can make a difference.
Did you know that the larger the percent of tree canopy in an urban area the higher the quality-of-life is for residents? A tree canopy provides health, financial, and environmental benefits to citizens by reducing air pollution, heat island impacts, storm water runoff, and energy costs. The Cincinnati Parks Department maintains the urban forest within the city's streetscapes, parks, and wooded rights-of-way.
Benefits of a healthy tree canopy for residents
- Higher property value
- More profitable economy
- Biodiversity
- Reduced energy bill
- Reduced Carbon Dioxide
- Reduced heat island effect
- Reduced storm water runoff and soil erosion
- Reduced noise pollution
- Reduced air pollution
- Reduced crime
It's never too late to plant a tree, but if you're looking a reason to do it, plan to plant during Earth Day or Arbor Day. It's a great way to celebrate all that nature offers and to give back.
