Reward Offered in July 2008 Homicide

Cincinnati Police Homicide Unit investigators will hold a news conference at 10:00 a.m. Friday May 1 at the Criminal Investigation Section, 824 Broadway, to announce a reward for information on a homicide that occurred last year. The murder of Thomas Gibert remains unsolved, and now the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation has offered a $5000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide. Mr. Gibert’s mother will be at the news conference to urge witnesses to come forward and assist detectives in the case. Anyone with information can call the Criminal Investigation Section at 352-3542 or Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.

Police and Fire units were dispatched Thursday, July 17, 2008, on a report of a body found at 2149 Western Avenue. Arriving officers located Thomas Gibert in the rail yard of CSX Railroad. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by Hamilton County Coroner O’dell Owens, M.D.

Francis and Carole Carrington established the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation to assist victims’ families by providing support and resources. They view the rewards as a tool to help law enforcement find missing persons and to bring perpetrators to justice. The foundation has paid more than $270,000 in rewards to citizens who did the right thing by coming forward and sharing information they had. To date, the Foundation’s reward money has assisted in locating 9 missing persons and apprehending 38 murder suspects, 3 kidnappers of young children, and a suspect charged with attempted murder of a peace officer.
