Yard Waste Composting

On August 21, 2009 the City of Cincinnati suspended it’s curbside collection of yard waste as part of its 2009/2010 budget cuts. “The City has experienced great success with its curbside yard waste collection service since it’s inception.” said City Manager Milton Dohoney. “Although the City is no longer providing curbside yard waste collection service we want to encourage our residents to continue its efforts in diverting yard waste from our landfills by practicing backyard composting, mulching or using one of the four yard waste drop off locations.”

Composting is nature’s way of recycling. Not only does composting help the environment, but it can help your garden, yard, and house plants too! It is a satisfying way to turn food waste and yard trimmings into a beneficial soil conditioner.

Composting:

• Saves you money by replacing store bought soil conditioners.

• Helps garden and house plants by improving the fertility and health of your soil.

• Saves water by helping the soil hold moisture and reducing water runoff.

• Benefits the environment by recycling valuable organic resources and extending the life of our landfills.
